Serger part 2

Wow this thing is a monster, scary but I know it is possible to conquer.

So I threaded the needles today. Here is a quick "tutorial" in case you are like me, completely new to this and could not find this online:

The numbers that you see here on the (not the ones on the dials) the ones on the top blue cover of the serger, will be a guide. They go in this order: 3 - 4 - 1 - 2

These numbers correspond to the numbers inside the front cover, once opened. The colors are there as guides -to make it clearer to see the path of the thread should be in. It does not mean you need to use that color thread.

There are also dots on the actual parts inside the front cover that will point you in the right direction as well.

Just follow the colors, and you will be able to thread the needle. Here, I threaded 1 needle as my other one broke, I will attempt to do a 3-stitch and/or 2-stitch overlock today as this is possible. These won't be as sturdy as a 4-stitch overlock but that's ok, we are learning and it will work just fine.

So I think I needed the second needle. Luckily, the box came with a spare set. Yey! So I placed them in with a mechanical screwdriver (I have a small one) because when I tried doing it by hand, the needle slipped right out.

The thread still kept coming off because I did not pull down the lever for the "yellow" path. See here:

When I finally figured that out, I was able to use the overlocker. I used scrap canvas fabric to practice. The numbers you see in the pictures are the numbers on the dials. I also added a picture of the dials for reference. There are 4 dials in all.

I thought the dials would influence the spacing between the loops but they all look the same to me. I will have to research this.

Till next time!
