Quick update
Hi all,
Just wanted to ad a quick update on my fashion design journey:
1. I bought a sewing machine at Walmart. It is a Singer and it was less than $100. I just gave in because I couldn't find much help online/through manuals/ebooks to use the Serger. I'm sure it will be helpful eventually but for a complete beginner like me, maybe it wasn't the best option
2. I visited Joanne fort the first time and they were having a 3-day sale. It was great! The staff were really nice and directed to me a great deal:
Butterick patterns were on sale for .99 cents from $19.95! Patterns are designs from different brands. They have a catalogue in the middle of the store, you browse through it and then go to the shelves to get the pattern you want. Each envelope gives you different variations of the design and you pick the fabric! The fabric was on sale too - 50% off jersey fabric which was a great deal!
The way you select the yardage for the fabric is by looking at the back of the envelope.
This looks intimidating but it's not so bad. Top A, B, and C refers to the variation of the design you are making. Look at the size row (eg. US size 6) and scroll down to the design type you are making (eg. Top A). You would then choose the width of the fabric. This is the trickiest part for a novice but if you look at the fabric, it will tell you how wide it is. When in doubt, ask a rep.
I also worked on sketching these past couple of weeks
A lot of what I did was focused around getting materials. I have my sewing machine, fabric and patterns, I am good to go!
'Till next time!
